This Earth Day is a reminder that taking care of your skin shouldn’t come at the planet’s expense—a value that we firmly believe in. After all, we care deeply for the longevity of your skin and our planet.
Let's take a look at what we at OneSkin do behind the scenes to remain sustainable and reduce plastic waste.
Sustainable Skin Care Should Be The Norm
Let’s be honest: the skin care and beauty industries haven’t exactly been kind to the planet. Wasteful packaging, unsustainable sourcing, supply chains built for speed, not sustainability, and an overall lack of accountability. Yearly, they're estimated to produce around 120 billion pieces of plastic waste, much of which is not recyclable.[1]
However, as more people seek clean, conscious options, we view sustainability not as a trend, but as the future.
OneSkin’s Refillable Packaging Model
One of our most direct and impactful contributions to reducing waste is the implementation of refillable packaging in our products: OS-01 FACE, OS-01 EYE, and PREP. Our refill system operates on a closed-loop principle where the durable outer vessel remains with you, while the lightweight refill cartridge minimizes material use and emissions.
For example, a significant portion of our refill packaging for OS-01 FACE is made of aluminum, which is far more recyclable than plastic. By pairing this sustainable engineering with refined aesthetics and performance, we’re proving that environmental responsibility and self-care can—and should—go hand in hand.
Tackling Plastic Waste: OneSkin’s Plastic Neutral Commitment
We’re working hard to use less plastic, but we’re also making sure to clean up what we can’t avoid. Thanks to a partnership with a third-party recycling organization, rePurpose, we’ve already removed over 36,000 pounds of plastic from the environment. While that may be hard to visualize, that's the equivalent of:
- Almost 40 million plastic straws
- More than 800 thousand plastic bottles
- And more than 3 million plastic shopping bags
That makes us officially plastic neutral: for every bit of plastic we use (including all of our company's plastic use, not just the plastic in our products), we remove an equal amount from the planet.
Being plastic-neutral isn’t our final goal, either. We continually seek ways to enhance our sustainability and minimize our carbon footprint.
